On September 20, 2008 the Barkhamsted Historical Society held an open house at the Barkhamsted Center School. Over 30 people visited, and Historical Society member Mike Day answered questions on school life in the early 20th century and before. Mike displayed text books and games that were used in one room type schoolhouses such as this one, located in Barkhamsted Center (on Route 181 near the intersection with Day Road and Old Town Hall Road).
